Buddy of mine bought one a few years ago. I drove it once. I enjoyed it. Unique car, comfortable, had 3 pedals. Go buy it.

I'd do it. The car I drive right now has the same engine! And it is a great one and decently powerful for the 2 ton monolith my ML320 is.

As long as you're not real tall, it shouldn't be a problem. I can't fit into them, but if you want a cheap Mercedes, I'd do it.

I know a guy with an SRT6. He likes it, bought it new, babies it along. I have some pictures of it somewhere I think, I'll have to look around for it. I haven't had a chance to drive it, but I know other people who used to have them, and no one has said anything bad about it. Well worth it for the car, but it depends on the price tag.

I still love mine (if you couldn't tell) after almost a year of ownership. Some people really dislike the way it looks but I love it, and I get compliments from random people roughly once a month. Also posted this to facebook a few days ….

It's too bad the SRT6 wasn't offered with a manual.

Ehh...it's a nautical styled first gen Mercedes SLK with a roof that doesn't go down (unless you get the convertible). More GT than proper sports car. I've always felt very meh about them. I prefer a GT with a little room inside to stretch out. If it's gonna be that small, make it a sports car, imho.

Nice! yours is really pretty. How's the maintenance? Anything to look out for? Can you fit smaller wheels on top of the brakes? The stockers are huge!

What makes you think its a GT?

You want smaller wheels?! I've never heard that before … but judging from this pic you probably could.

Also from my understanding reliability is pretty good, the only thing I don't like is the expensive oil changes. It takes 8 quarts of Mobil1 so you can imagine.

My father used to have an auto crossfire, so I can't speak about the 6-speed, but I really enjoyed that car. We had it for 5-6 years and sold it a couple summers ago. Never any serious mechanical issues. I got to drive it every once in a while and ended up taking a couple road trips in it, and it was pretty comfortable on the highway. I never took it to the limit so I can't say for that, but like everyone says, the car is actually an SLK and the thing has a top speed of 155, so it ain't too shabby.

In my opinion, the color to get is gunmetal, it'll take some hunting but it's worth it. The A-pillar is silver no matter what color the car is, and it looks a bit mismatched in my opinion. Gunmetal is close enough that you don't notice it.

It's nice around the corners just cruising, but the ride can get rough on back roads- I'm 6'1" and I remember bumping my head on big potholes, so it isn't headroom heaven either. It has a few things going for it, being pretty much a Mercedes. The handling is a lot better than you would think when you actually think about how much the car weighs. Rear visibility is crap, but I think it looks really cool, and it can't really get mistaken for anything else. You would be surprised at how much attention it'll get if you end up with one.

I'm pretty indifferent to them. If the price is right, go for it. I find them solid and unexiting. The kind of car I'd be happy to flog as a hand-me down, but meh otherwise.

A friend and I went and had them pull one out of the showroom when the came out. We were hoping for the best and ended up underwhelmed. Balanced, good, MB. But a bit of a bore for me.

My vote? Of you can, go a little higher mileage and get an SRT6

It's essentially a Mercedes-Benz SLK with (if you ask me) a better design inside and out. A neighbour of mine bought one in 2006, still owns his, so I guess it's reliable.
Performance wise it's no rocket, nor would I expect it to blast through corners like a cat.

Let me put it another way, so we don't get bogged down in arbitrary definitions of what exactly a GT and sports car are.

The Crossfire in and of itself is a decent handling, reasonably-not-slow car, with a cramped interior that's a pain to see out of. For me to be willing to put up with a cramped interior and crap visibility, I want much better performance. Because the styling, while "unique," isn't enough on its own to make me willing to put up with the compromises it creates.

First off I feel like I should say I only notice the lack of visibility when I'm backing into a space, and even then I always fit it and haven't curbed a wheel yet. Also I hit my hair on the roof about the same is in my old SC400, which was actually a GT, and I'm 6''.

As for sports car-y-ness, I've read Chrysler bragged that it had a stiffer chassis than a 911 of that time. I'm sure because of the "roof that doesn't go down" on a convertible chassis. They also tuned the suspension to be stiffer, that plus wide tires means it does 1g on a skidpad. Not mention it only weighs 3k lbs.

But then again I'm clearly biased.

I mean, it's not a terrible car. There are certainly far worse cars out there. It just does nothing for me.

For me, visibility isn't so much a matter of not running into things, it's the feeling of being closed inside the car. I just don't like it. I like cars with big windows, low beltlines & cowl heights, and an open feeling when you're inside. My favorite car for this was my old '92 Integra GSR. Super low dash, big windows, great open feeling even though it's not a big car. Hell, I'm 5'11" 215 lbs and I managed to drive a '99 Miata as my only car for 4 years. So it's not like I need a super roomy car, just good visibility.

Conversely, a friend of mine had a '96 Viper GTS for a while and I kinda hated riding with him in it because it's so damned claustrophobic inside.

So, the reason I don't like the Crossfire is it has a high beltline & cowl, small windows, and doesn't really offer anything particularly compelling (to me) in exchange for riding around in a coffin.

Ahh now I see. Well on that topic, my friend with a new Camaro and myself joke around about whose car has the worst visibility. Obviously we both like the slammed greenhouse look.
